Do I need a referral for a neuropsychological assessment?
You don't require a referral to book for a neuropsychological assessment. However, there are various cases where they are useful, and recommended. These include where you are engaged with a specialist or even a GP who is actively involved in your care. With your consent, they can receive the report after the completion of the assessment.
Can I claim appointments on Medicare or private health insurance?
Only in limited instances are neuropsychological assessments covered by Medicare or private health funds. Sage is a registered Department of Veteran’s Affairs (DVA) provider and DVA gold card members are eligible for cover, however, you will need to confirm your eligibility by speaking directly with the DVA. The DVA does require a referral from a GP or neurologist to verify your need for a neuropsychological assessment.
With some private health funds, there can be an option to obtain a small rebate for a neuropsychological assessment. In such cases, they may ask you to present your referral for this service. You will need to discuss this with your own private health fund, as each one operates with slightly different regulations. It is also a good idea to check with Sage that we have registered with your particular private health fund for you to apply for a rebate.
What if I have an insurance claim for a head injury?
Under certain circumstances, neuropsychological assessments requested on behalf of an insurance company may be accepted by Sage. If there is an insurance company involved (i.e. if it is a work-related injury or car accident), you may want to contact your case manager to discuss any assistance they may provide towards the cost of the assessment. If you are a Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) gold card member, please talk to your DVA Medical Specialist for a referral, as DVA will likely cover the cost.
Is Sage a registered provider for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)?
Yes, Sage is a registered provider with the NDIS. To find out more about your eligibility for the NDIS, please phone the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or visit www.ndis.gov.au for further details.
Are my assessment interview and results completely private and confidential?
When you attend Sage for your assessment, the discussions and results are confidential, however, there are some exceptions to this, namely if you report an intention to harm yourself or others, or report or suspect the abuse of a minor. If this situation applies to you, the necessary process of official reporting will be discussed with you. All practising psychologists are mandated by law to adhere to these reporting requirements.
The actual report that is generated from your neuropsychological assessment will be provided for you and for any other nominated health or mental health professionals, or educators, that you request. It is also possible for you to disseminate the report as it is required; Sage will discuss your particular requirements with this prior to distribution.
Where do I go for my appointment with Sage Clinical Psychology?
Sage will provide you with information concerning the specific venue in the Upper Blue Mountains once your appointment has been confirmed. For adult or older adult neuropsychological assessments, it is also possible for your assessment to be completed in the Sydney CBD, which can be discussed when you inquire/book.
